Last Wednesday, The Sands Wealth Management Team, alongside another team from the SJP Leeds community, put on our gardening gloves and boots and got stuck into a gardening project with the brilliant Charity WellChild. Over two days a garden was transformed to create a safe outdoor space for a young girl called Darcy in South Kirby.

Darcy has Tuberous Sclerosis, Epilepsy, is visually impaired and also have Osteoporosis, this causes her bones to become fragile and break. Because of this she is unable to spend time in parks and outdoor areas and require constant supervision. The completed WellChild’s project now means that Darcy can play on a safely decked area and enjoy a fun water feature right outside her back door.

On the day we built and installed raised beds and artificial grass to an area of the garden. This provided Darcy with a levelled, soft, and suitable flooring to play on. We then added a sensory wall and mud kitchen to the garden that Darcy loves playing with. Making these changes made a huge difference to Darcy as she will have a better quality of life when at home and can enjoy spending time outside with her family and friends.
